T-Rhexan 1 is a proprietary water-soluble, dust-free blend of cellulose derivative and starch developed by Rhexan LLC. It is designed as a cost-effective replacement for xanthan gum, carrageenan, and other hydrocolloids in pet food applications — and uniquely, it performs at low pH (3.0–3.4) where standard xanthan gum and straight CMC break down. Processed in the USA.
Key Advantages Over Xanthan Gum & Other Hydrocolloids
- Works at low pH (3.0–3.4) — where xanthan gum and CMC fail, T-Rhexan 1 maintains full performance
- Reduces syneresis — eliminates fat and water separation in liquid animal digests (LAD) and liquid palatants
- Better kibble adhesion — LAD and liquid palatants adhere more effectively to pet food kibbles than with standard digests
- Uniform, homogenous coating — provides consistent, even coating for improved palatability
- Lower application rate — reduces the quantity of LAD and liquid palatants needed, delivering significant cost savings
- Most cost-effective — lower cost than xanthan gum, carrageenan, and other hydrocolloids
- Freeze-thaw stable — withstands up to 6 freeze-thaw cycles
- Processed in the USA
Applications
- Liquid animal digests (LAD) — reduces syneresis, improves adhesion and uniformity of application to kibbles
- Liquid and dry palatants — improves performance and reduces application rate
- Canned and wet pet foods — provides customized textures even at low pH
- Pet food gravies — gravies adhere well to kibbles; unique textures achievable
- Pet beverages — stable texture and viscosity at challenging pH levels
- Baked goods — improves water holding capacity, increases volume, extends shelf life; substitute for vital wheat gluten and xanthan gum
- Meat and poultry slurries — improves freeze-thaw stability and reduces syneresis

Directions for Use
T-Rhexan 1 requires good mixing and dispersion. A high-shear mixer (such as Silverson) is recommended. Add T-Rhexan 1 slowly into the vortex of the mixing slurry while the mixer is running.
- Pet food / meat slurry: Start at 0.25%. Range: 0.25–1%. Add at pH 5–7, mix minimum 3 minutes. Acidify to final pH as needed.
- Bakery: Start at 0.1%. Range: 0.1–1%. Add at pH 5.5–7, mix minimum 3 minutes.
- Viscosity develops in 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Withstands up to 6 freeze-thaw cycles.
Safety & Storage
No significant health hazard expected. Store at ambient temperature in a tight container. Avoid excess heat. Wear dust mask and goggles when handling. Dust generation is minimal. No special clothing required.
